The Early Years Foundation Stage
At Peter Pan Preschool, our curriculum meets the statutory requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Its 4 over arching principles being:
a unique child
positive relationships
enabling environments
learning and development
These principles are fundamental to everything that is our Pre-school.
We use Birth to 5 Matters and Development Matters 2021 as our guidance and we strive to provide a safe, nurturing environment that is rich in both language and interaction. We firmly believe that young children learn best when learning through play; investigating, being creative, doing. At Peter Pan, children learn and develop by engaging in meaningful and stimulating play activities that reflect their interests. . Not only do they learn but they also grow in both confidence and independence through playful provocation and exploration. Play is further consolidated at daily group times where adult-led play supports the children to achieve a planned goal, taking into account that different approaches are used depending on how individual children learn.
We ensure our children have a thorough grounding in the 3 Prime areas and 4 Specific areas of learning and development as specified in the Learning and Development requirements:
Prime Areas
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Communication and Language
Physical Development
Specific Areas
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and Design
When your child starts at Peter Pan they are assigned a Key Person. This role is embedded in our daily practice. It enables the Key Person and your child to form a special bond which enables a positive relationship to be established. This relationship is the foundation on which children feel emotionally secure, happy to leave their parent / carer and ready to learn through being engaged in their play.
We value the opportunity to have a partnership with parents / carers and so we offer Home Visits prior to your child's start date. This visit provides the Key Person with an opportunity to get to know you and your child and is the start of our partnership with you. The Key Person supports your child's learning and documents their progress throughout the year by supporting their play and making observations in our online learning journal, Tapestry.
The Key Person will ensure that appropriate learning and activities are planned weekly which reflect your child's interests and needs. We also have informal parent consultations three times a year where you can discuss your child's progress with their Key Person and inform them about your child's home learning. Furthermore, we always ensure that we are available to talk on a daily basis if there is a concern or a question.
Pumpkins in our green grocers. We wrote shopping lists to take to the local green grocers shop.
Our fantastic collection of pumpkins donated by our families.
